Economic Modeling of Archival Storage Solucions

The ubiquitous use of computers to serve and store data has given rise to the need for ever-increasing amounts of archival storage for data,  While the density and reliability of archival storage technologies continues to increase, the pace of storage density and reliability improvements has diminished as many technologies like optical disk, hard disk drives, tapes, and NVM reach maturity.  Decisions made today about which archival storage solution to use will impact the cost, performance, and utility of data archives for years to come.  We present a solution to model the economic and practical costs of various competing archival storage technologies with the goal of helping archival storage providers more easily choose which archival solution best fits their needs now and into the future.
