Joel is a Ph.D. Student working on secure long-term storage with Dr. Darrell Long. He spent most of the 90's in a submarine operating a nuclear reactor. After leaving the Navy, he attended SJSU and got his M.S. in Computer Science in 2008. Prior to coming to UCSC, he worked for a DoD contractor for five years writing communications intelligence software. He is current developing Percival, a searchable secret-split datastore, as well as improvements to share reconstruction.
